From Dependence to True Collaboration
For too long, the African diaspora has operated in a mode of dependence — on platforms built for others, on systems designed without us in mind, on marketplaces that extract value from our communities without returning it. That era is ending.
True collaboration means building together. It means African merchants and diaspora consumers finding each other on infrastructure we own. It means our dollars, pounds, euros, and naira circulating within our ecosystem before they leave it.
This issue of The Switch! is about that transition. The Dangote IPO. The Charlotte Global Africa Summit. Our own platform progress. And the merchants who are already showing what's possible when we build together.

Koli & Olum: Teaching Africa's Languages, One Child at a Time
Founder, Ada-Ari · @koli.olum
Ada Ari didn't set out to build a publishing company. She set out to find books her children could see themselves in — books that spoke their languages, told their stories, and reflected their heritage. When she couldn't find them, she wrote them.
Koli & Olum now offers 21+ African language editions of each title, with 10% of every sale pledged to orphanage support across the continent. These aren't just books. They're bridges.

Africa's Folktales Reimagined
But before the language books, there were the stories. Ada Ari has spent years touring Africa, collecting the folktales that shaped a continent — and retelling them for today's children in beautifully illustrated picture books. These are not adaptations. They are restorations. Stories that were nearly lost through centuries of migration, brought back to life with full-color illustrations, culture cards, and real maps showing exactly where in Africa each tale was born.

Your Gateway to African Excellence — Anytime, Anywhere
The BERTHA Marketplace has always been about more than shipping boxes across borders. It's about moving culture, knowledge, creativity, and community — and now, with the launch of the BERTHA Digital Products Store, that movement happens instantly.

The Digital Products Store is BERTHA's dedicated marketplace for downloadable and streamable content created by African and diasporan vendors. Whether you're a musician in Lagos, a novelist in London, a photographer in Accra, or a business coach in Atlanta — if your work lives in a file, BERTHA can sell it to the world.
Customers browse, purchase, and access their digital purchases directly from their personal BERTHA library — a beautifully organized, always-available vault of everything they've ever bought. No hunting through email inboxes for download links. No expired tokens. Just open your library and press play.
Every BERTHA customer who purchases a digital product gets access to their Personal Library — organized by media type, searchable, and featuring My Playlists to curate purchases from multiple vendors into a single personalized experience.

Where African Creativity Meets Economic Power
There is a moment that happens on BERTHA that doesn't happen anywhere else. A fashion designer in Accra posts a styling video featuring a vendor's handwoven kente wrap. A beauty influencer in Toronto shares an honest review of a Ghanaian shea butter brand. A spoken word artist in Atlanta tags a Lagos jeweler in a piece about identity and adornment. And then — something moves. Not just content. Commerce. Culture. Capital. All flowing in the same direction, across borders, within a community that was built for exactly this.
That moment is what the BERTHA Creator Community was designed to make possible — at scale, with structure, and with real economic reward.
A Tier System Built for Growth
The Creator Community operates on four tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum — and the path from one to the next is built entirely on engagement and contribution. Points accumulate through likes, shares, content creation, and community participation.
Bronze
0 pts
Affiliate link + loyalty reward points
Silver
40 pts
Vendor × Creator Matching portal access
Gold
150 pts
Paid content briefs + 2.5% cash commission
Platinum
500 pts
Full commission engine + priority briefs
The most significant milestone is the shift at Gold tier — Bronze and Silver creators earn loyalty reward points for affiliate activity. Gold and Platinum creators earn 2.5% cash commission on every sale generated through their unique affiliate link. This is not a promise or a future feature. It is live, tracked, and paid.
The Affiliate Engine
Every creator receives a personal referral link. When a customer lands on BERTHA through that link, a 30-day tracking cookie captures the attribution. If that customer makes a purchase within 30 days — whether they buy immediately or return a week later — the creator earns credit for that sale.
The system is automatic and transparent. Creators can monitor their affiliate activity directly from their dashboard, watching their referrals convert in real time. For Gold and Platinum creators, those conversions translate directly into cash payouts tracked in the Creator Payouts ledger and disbursed by the BERTHA admin team. This is affiliate marketing built for the African diaspora — not a generic link-in-bio tool, but a purpose-built commission engine connected to a marketplace where every product represents a vendor who shares your cultural roots.
Creator Storefronts & the Collab Hub
Every creator on BERTHA gets a public Creator Storefront — a branded profile page displaying their tier badge, follower count, and curated content. Visitors can follow creators directly, building an audience that lives inside the BERTHA ecosystem rather than being borrowed from a third-party platform.
The Collaboration Hub is where the vendor-creator relationship becomes formal and productive. Creators can submit collab requests across six collaboration types — from product reviews and styling features to full campaign partnerships. Vendors can post paid content briefs with specific deliverables, timelines, and compensation. The result is a structured creative economy within BERTHA — not informal DMs and handshake deals, but documented collaborations with clear terms, tracked through the platform from brief to completion.
Why This Matters for the African Diaspora
The African diaspora is not a niche. It is an estimated 170 million people spread across every continent, with a collective purchasing power that dwarfs most national economies. What has historically been missing is not the money, the talent, or the desire to support one another — it is the infrastructure.
BERTHA is building that infrastructure. The Creator Community is one of its most important pillars, because it solves a problem that every diaspora marketplace faces: how do you reach a community that is geographically scattered but culturally unified? The answer is creators. Trusted voices who already have the attention of the community.
When a Platinum creator in London earns a cash commission for introducing her audience to a Nigerian skincare brand, something larger than a transaction has occurred. A vendor in Lagos has found a customer in London. A creator has been compensated for cultural work that previously went unpaid. And the diaspora has moved a little more of its economic energy through channels it owns.

Meet Raymond Joseph Govere
Raymond Joseph Govere
Originally Zimbabwean, now calls South Africa home.
Raymond is a young man who believes in growth, ambition, and creating opportunities that make people's lives better. He has a passion for entrepreneurship, football, creativity, and connecting with people from different backgrounds.
Driven by the belief that your background should never limit your future, Raymond takes chances, stays consistent, and makes a meaningful impact wherever life takes him — exactly the spirit BERTHA was built to amplify.
What first drew you to BERTHA, and what made you decide to become an Ambassador? Tell us about the moment the opportunity became personally meaningful.
What attracted me to BERTHA was its vision of connecting businesses to global opportunities. As a young entrepreneur, I saw a chance to be part of something bigger than myself. I became an Ambassador because I want to help businesses gain exposure, build valuable connections, and realise that their potential goes beyond local markets. That moment of clarity — that BERTHA was building exactly the bridge African entrepreneurs need — is what made this personal.
Before joining, what questions or reservations did you have? What helped you make your decision, and what are you still learning?
My main concern was whether BERTHA could create real opportunities for businesses. Understanding its vision helped me make my decision. I am still learning how to build trust, connect the right businesses, and turn opportunities into meaningful results. The learning never stops — and that's what makes this work exciting.
Imagine looking back three years from now. Whose life would you hope to have touched, and what would meaningful success look like beyond your own earnings?
In three years, I hope to have connected over 100 African-owned businesses to global markets. Meaningful success means helping entrepreneurs expand their vision, reach international customers, and realise that their businesses can compete globally. When a vendor in Johannesburg ships their first international order through BERTHA, that is the success I am working toward.
What would you say to someone in another country who feels inspired by BERTHA's mission but wonders, 'Is there a place for someone like me?'
BERTHA has no borders. If you believe in creating opportunities, connecting businesses, and making a difference, there is a place for you. The movement needs voices from every corner of the diaspora — and yours matters.
"I am a BERTHA Ambassador because I want to help African businesses access global opportunities and turn their dreams into reality."
— Raymond Joseph Govere
Raymond's story is one of many unfolding across our Ambassador Network. We are proud to have him representing BERTHA in South Africa, and we cannot wait to watch him grow into one of the most impactful connectors in our movement.
Are you ready to bring BERTHA to your country and region? Ambassadors are the heartbeat of this movement — the people on the ground who make the global vision real. If Raymond's story resonates with you, we want to hear from you.

BERTHA Pitches at EY San Jose
On October 22nd, BERTHA took the stage at the ADN ABLE 2026 Pitch Day at EY's San Jose office, presenting our gold-backed stablecoin and diaspora e-commerce platform to a room of investors, founders, and diaspora leaders.
The pitch landed. The vision resonated. And the conversations that followed confirmed that the infrastructure we're building is exactly what this community has been waiting for.
What We're Watching
The Culture Is the Commerce
This month's cultural signal: the rise of African language content on global streaming platforms. When Yoruba, Twi, and Amharic appear in Netflix originals, it's not just representation — it's market validation. The diaspora's cultural identity is becoming a commercial force.

The Numbers That Matter
The $100B Opportunity
The African diaspora sends over $100 billion home annually. A fraction of that circulating within diaspora-owned platforms would transform our economic landscape.
$100B+
Annual diaspora remittances
3.6M
African diaspora businesses in the US
40%
Of diaspora spend on cultural goods
The opportunity isn't just in remittances. It's in the everyday purchasing decisions of 40 million African diaspora members in the United States alone. When we choose to buy from each other, we multiply the impact of every dollar.
BERTHA is building the infrastructure to make that choice easy, trusted, and rewarding for both merchants and consumers.

The Infrastructure is Taking Shape
Three signals this month that the diaspora economy is accelerating:
Dangote IPO Watch
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO continues to draw global attention. For the diaspora, this is more than a financial event — it's a signal that African-built infrastructure can compete at the highest levels of global capital markets.
Charlotte Global Africa Summit
BERTHA monitored the Charlotte Global Africa Summit, where diaspora business leaders gathered to align on trade, investment, and platform strategies. The energy was unmistakable: the diaspora is organizing.
BERTHA Platform Progress
Our merchant onboarding pipeline is growing. Soft launch preparations are underway. The infrastructure for the diaspora marketplace is being built in real time — and you're watching it happen.
